Back pain underused remedies
For many people who suffer with back pain, they live in constant agony; finding some form of medication to bring back pain relief is probably a sufferers first thought, even if it only temporary. Pain relief is possible with the medications available but that is all they do and the reason for the pain continues. While there are a host of prescription medications that help with pain relief, many are doing nothing more than masking the symptoms instead of tackling the underlying cause of the pain. Any type of medication should only be used with the supervision of a doctor but especially when it is taken on a regular basis.
The back is under a constant strain throughout our lives and whilst it is very strong, it can be injured without to much difficulty; poor posture can also result in damage to the back and can happen when a person is quite young. Of course the most common way to injure your spine is by lifting heavy weights or lifting them incorrectly. There are a number of natural back pain relief methods that mean you will not have to rely on drugs.
One of the simplest but also underused remedies is just the act of stretching which can bring relief to tense muscles as well. Another type of treatment called reflexology uses a massage technique applied to the feet; it works very well in relieving back pain. In addition to this, reflexology can also help to improve the blood circulation which in turn provides relief to aching and tired muscles.
The traditional Chinese medicine therapy acupuncture is now providing back pain relief with people suffering spinal problems in the West. Traditional Chinese medicine is based on the theory that all people have this energy which flows through them called 'chi' or 'qi'. Although the chi can become blocked, it can be released by using thin needles inserted into various points on the body. Whilst acupuncture is used for many conditions, it is frequently used for pain relief and many people claim to have excellent results from using it.
A slower and gentler type of Yoga called Tai Chi, once again from China, is another method of back pain control. Tai Chi focuses on breathing techniques and is a great way to relax your back. Whilst it involves some stretching and breathing exercises it is not too strenuous which means that anyone, young or old can take part in Tai Chi. Natural back pain relief should really start with more frequent exercise; it not only helps to ensure the back is more flexible but can prevent spinal problems as well.
