Knowing Back Pain

Currently there is no complete cure to administer to a person who experiences back pain; for most people, their only concern is to receive back pain relief medication to dull the pain. The problem with pain relief medication is that it doesn't help the cause of the problem, just merely makes it a little more bearable. Medication should be used sparingly and under the strict supervision of a medical professional.

It is not difficult to injure your back, especially if you are a manual worker but long term problems can also be the result of an accident; it is not uncommon for a person to cause permanent damage from just lifting something incorrectly. The most common way to injure your back though is by lifting badly, it is usually recognized immediately by a sharp pain at the base of the spine. More recently people are willing to try natural back pain relief treatments to stop their reliance on other types of medication.

Tense muscles in the back can be eased just by gentle stretching; this provides relief and is simple to carry out. Reflexology, an ancient type of alternative medical treatment, uses the concept that areas of the body have corresponding regions on the feet that can benefit from massage; it is a very old natural therapy which helps to relieve many chronic ailments in addition to back pain. Reflexology can also help to improve the body's blood circulation and relax muscles.

The traditional Chinese medicine therapy acupuncture is now providing back pain relief with people suffering spinal problems in the West. Followers of traditional Chinese medicine are of the belief that every person has an inner energy force (chi) that reflects of our state of health, mental and physical. Acupuncture works by releasing the 'chi' or energy flow that every living thing has to improve health. Like reflexology, acupuncture seems to be used by people who suffer with chronic conditions like back pain which requires relief.

The Chinese discipline of tai chi has also provided relief as it uses yoga like principles. It is far easier and much slower so there is less likelihood of further damage being caused. Tai Chi focuses on breathing techniques and is a great way to relax your back. Whilst it involves some stretching and breathing exercises it is not too strenuous which means that anyone, young or old can take part in Tai Chi. Regular exercise is also one of the best preventative medicines available and can help with back pain relief; it increases physical flexibility generally, but also of the spine, which can aid the prevention of future problems.
