Advantages for Non-Meat Eaters

Before anyone makes the decision to become a vegetarian, they often question whether it will make any difference. Some consider just what difference a single person changing their eating habits can make. However, if enough individuals do stop, it becomes statistically more important to the health of animals on this planet. This is especially true if you look at Americans who eat meat and the percentage of those that will suffer from heart disease at some point in their lives.

It is the cholesterol in meat, eggs, milk, cheese and other dairy items that contribute to the problem of heart and circulatory conditions. The figures speak for themselves when a person who eats meat is four times as likely to suffer a heart attack as someone who is a vegetarian. For those who go one step further and become vegans the figure lowers even still to an amazing one in ten chance. The heart is only one organ that benefits from a vegetarian diet because there are other health advantages.

There is less likelihood of cancer owing to the reduced number of preservatives that will be in your diet compared to a person that regularly eats meat. As a vegetarian you won't be exposed to various hormones (that are packed into animal feed), which often disrupt normal hormonal processes in the body. Some digestive conditions are claimed to be caused by a reaction to lactose which is avoided if you are a non-meat eater. On a more ethical note, you will be surprised how much less suffering in animals you will be responsible for by becoming a vegetarian.

In fact the death toll of animals may be far greater than expected with figures in the region of 2,700 eaten by an average American in their lifetime. In the course of just a few short years you could stop the death of hundreds of animals by changing your life this way. Furthermore, by reducing your intake of dairy products and eggs, many hens and cows will have better living conditions. Well after reading this it is obvious the easy answer is yes it is better to become a vegetarian. An improvement in your overall health with less chance of cancer or a heart condition and the reduction of animal deaths provide a compelling argument.
