My name is Shannon and I’m here to be honest and UpBeet about nutrition and with you. I’m a certified Nutritional Therapy Practitioner (NTP) through the Nutritional Therapy Association and based in Pittsburgh, PA, I also work with distant clients by email, phone, and Skype.
As a Nutritional Therapist , I offer individualized one-on-one and small group nutrition coaching by utilizing evidence-based nutrition and functional clinical assessments to help my clients reach their goals. My goal is to help you improve your life with real, wholesome food and gain consistency, progress, confidence, and sustainable results together.
Another recent area of study includes my Bachelors of Science degree in kinesiology, also known as human kinetics or the scientific study of human movement, from Penn State University. From my undergraduate, I gained the skill set and clinical experience in exercise testing and prescription, specifically the American College of Sports Medicine pre-participation health screening and risk stratification for atherosclerosis, cardiovascular, pulmonary, and metabolic disease.
In my spare time I enjoy being outdoors, going to Pittsburgh Pirates games, reading and staying up to date on the latest nutrition research, practicing my newly acquired yoga poses (I just do it for the Savasana), and visiting my family and the dogs. Meet the dynamic duo of Nick and Dixie…
The beets about me
I have a passion for helping people and my mission here is to help you debunk all the nutritional myths and get on to the path to optimal wellness. From my experiences through the past 8 years and from my study through the Nutritional Therapy Association, I’ve learned what works and what doesn’t work for obtaining long-term health and vitality.
“Let food be thy medicine and medicine be thy food.”
Why diets don’t work—
Diets don’t work, period. It’s common for me to see people follow a diet plan from a book or television special where they think they’ll succeed because they’re committed, but unfortunately diets go against what your intuition and body needs. Did I mention diets don’t work?
We are bioindividuals that require specific nutrient’s our bodies need to function properly. The problem most people have when it comes to nutrition is truly understanding their body and what it needs to function properly and optimally.
How I can help you—
Are you suffering from excess weight, digestive problems, bloating, fatigue, hormone imbalances, or skin issues? I can help you turn it around to make you feel healthy.
As a Nutritional Therapy Practitioner, I practice a foundational approach to holistic nutrition that utilize a set of tools for identifying nutritional deficiencies. Imbalances are addressed through diet, nutritional supplements and lifestyle changes tailored for your biochemical individuality.
I identify and look at the underlying causes of your health concerns, working closely alongside with you to create a plan that will help you reach your goals. By correcting nutritional imbalances, you will see changes with your weight loss, digestion, energy, hormones, skin and overall health and vitality.
We will be a good working relationship if:
- You are overwhelmed and struggling when it comes to making health food choices.
- You want to make progress, receive the support you need and obtain long-lasting results.
- You want to understand how food affects your health.
- You diet often and opt for quick fixes.
- You are ready to improve your nutrition through strategic eating, not dieting, and without expensive supplements.
