Natural Back Pain Relief

More and more people are turning to alternate therapies today. Mainstream medical treatment and alternative or complimentary therapy has become part of integrated treatment and today there is some very high quality scientific verification in safety and efficacy aspects. You have recourse to healing in certain areas when you use alternative lines of treatment when it is not really addressed in conventional medicine. These treatments could involve homeopathy, new age healing, faith healing and naturopathy. These therapies are used instead of conventional medical treatment in the belief they will have some curative effect on a disease.

Not only can alternative health therapies help you to improve the quality of your life and feel better, they can also help you to improve your overall general health in order to provide you with a sense of control. You feel more relaxed as anxiety, depression, sleeplessness; stress and tension are greatly reduced. The intensity of some of the side effects of traditional cancer treatment can be made more bearable, other symptoms like breathlessness, diarrhea, lack of appetite, constipation, pain and feeling sick that are greatly reduced.

Often used together with conventional medicine, alternative therapy can tend to mask pain which may hide the actual very serious underlying problem. Today there are cancer support groups and others who offer free or at a very low charge, alternative therapies; several hospices and hospitals are beginning to provide alternate therapy for cancer care, along with conventional treatments of radiotherapy and chemotherapy for cancer. A lot of cancer patients use these therapies in order to help them fare better when undergoing treatment for cancer. However, they should not be seen as an alternative to orthodox medicine, but as a valuable support that recognizes the emotional and spiritual aspects as well as the physical aspects.

There is an increase in the use of alternative health products, Americans use a lot of herbs and vitamins and spend about billion every year on alternative health products. Research by Tindle, Davis, Phillips, & Eisenberg in the year 2005 have revealed that on an average seventy two million Americans have switched over to alternative therapies. Also indicated from these studies is a figure of more than billion per year spent on out-of-pocket for these therapies according to Herman, Craig, & Caspi, 2005.

Nevertheless it is important to find out which particular alternative health therapies offer the most effective treatments for your needs, as well as discover which treatments you feel comfortable with. For many people that suffer from MND or Motor Neuron Disease, individual therapies have been conducted and have proven to actually improve the overall quality of life for these individuals, these individual therapies can include: aromatherapy, acupuncture, homeopathy, massage, hypnotherapy, reiki, meditation and reflexology. It is always a good idea to consult your physician before considering any of the alternative therapies available, and it is important to double check that any additional treatment undertaken will not adversely affect any current treatment program you are on.

In the event, that you make the decision to integrate some of the alternative health therapies into your specific treatment plan, you are going to need to discuss all of your choices very openly, regularly and honestly with your physician and others that are part of your health care team. The treating physician can often recommend and help in acquiring alternative treatments at the clinic or hospital itself or some other provider. Maybe they will be able to recommend some precise practitioners or therapies as more doctors are convinced that in today's society, complementary medicine has a place. For many people these days, alternative therapies help to cope up with stress and anxiety and making them react to conventional medicines in a better manner.

Natural Back Pain Relief

Acupuncture, an ancient Chinese healing technique and acupressure have a great deal in common. Like acupressure, this method uses the points of energy in the body called meridians; here fine needles penetrate the skin at those points - the method boosts good health and treats poor health. The secret is in unblocking any obstruction in the path of the flow of energy in the body - also known as chi or qi. Along the body's exterior surface, there is a total of three hundred and sixty five different points of acupuncture scattered around, all of these points follow fourteen main meridian paths.

The blockage is freed when acupressure or special needles are applied at specific points on the meridian where the 'chi' is trapped. Take the time to visualize having to remove obstacles that are blocking a river's flow so that it is able to freely flow again. Acupuncture is also used to control the pace of chi that sometimes flows very fast or very slow.

This is a 4000 year old medical discipline, practiced and perfected over thousands of years; archaeological digs have found needles dating back as far as 1000 BC in the Shang Dynasty. Acupuncture is of three kinds: traditional Yin/Yang Theory, Five Elements and the Western or medical acupuncture. Though the diagnostic approach used by all the three methods is similar, the causes attributed to the illness and the treatment of the illness varies from one method to the other.

As the name suggests Five Element Acupuncture follows the five element cycle of Chinese medicine and it also takes the relationship between the mind and body seriously in the diagnosis of illnesses as much as the physical causes. The emotional stress and anxiety that a person experiences must be first dealt with in order to ease the physical pain. Full recovery is a slow process as the emphasis in the five element process is on finding and treating the cause of the illness. The traditional yin / yang theory focuses on restoring the overall balance of yin and yang in the body. All of the acupuncture points can be stimulated along pathways that are completely different in order to affect more than just a single element simultaneously.

Western acupuncture combines Eastern and Western medical techniques and its focus is more on urgent short term treatment. There are two sub-categories of the medical aspect, the first, anesthetic acupuncture, is used in surgical and dental procedures. The second: 'symptomatic' or first-aid isn't used for the diagnosis of the illness but merely to assist with temporary analgesic pain relief. Medical researches and studies have revealed that this ancient therapy has been very successful in the treatment of migraines, depression, asthma, gynecological disorders, allergies, infertility, and arthritis. However, like many of the energy medicines, it is most effective for treating either persistent conditions that do not readily respond to traditional medicines, or in dealing with disorders related to a person's lifestyle.

Natural Back Pain Relief

We all experience pain for a reason but on many occasions it is a warning for us to discontinue something we are doing. It can be caused by anything from a dental cavity to a broken bone to a disease but once we determine where the pain is coming from, we can diagnose and address the health problem, thus relieving the pain. Sometimes, however, pain isn?t dealt with so easily and it remains with us despite all efforts to banish it.

Many of us have experienced this to a degree when we suffer a headache or a migraine but it also refers to conditions like arthritis and back pain. Although an extremely common condition, chronic pain has no cure and there is no way to prevent a situation occurring where chronic pain will not happen. Chronic pain often long outlives its original cause, worsening over time and taking on a life of its own and the longer chronic pain goes untreated, the worse it becomes.

Unfortunately, prescription medication, which is the normal way to deal with the pain, can become ineffective over prolonged periods requiring higher doses and the chance of dangerous side effects increase; now people are turning to wards more natural pain relief methods. One such natural pain relief method is the use of acupuncture, a treatment that has origins many thousands of years old. Using tiny and incredibly thin needles, acupuncture is an ancient medical treatment.

Anyone that has used acupuncture will say how effective it is and those that use it are generally suffering from chronic pain like that caused by arthritis, back pain and migraines for example. The use of herbal remedies must not be discounted either as natural pain relief treatments plus they do not indicated side effects common with other types of pain killers. One example is vitamin E which is a natural pain relief treatment for people suffering with painful scarring.

The only problem to using herbal remedies as treatments is they do not provide instant results but rather a gradual build up; however, they are not going to cause problems to the system as only natural products are taken. The best way to avoid the need for any type of natural pain relief is to look after your health and avoid substances that create problems like processed foods, foods with high salt and fat content, and eat more fruit and vegetables. Many people cut back on the amount of sleep they have which is a mistake as sleep in the correct amounts is a time when the body repairs itself but exercise should not be forgotten either as even walking is a very healthy physical activity.

Eczema In Baby

Eczema is a form of inflammation of the upper layers of the skin and the term eczema is broadly applied to a range of persistent or recurring skin rashes. This is not a pleasant skin complaint and those poor individuals that have to deal with it may have many skin problems in the affected areas up to and including bleeding. One of the problems encountered by an Eczema sufferer is the need to scratch the inflamed area which causes further inflammation but using drugs that stop the itching are an effective Eczema treatment. Dermatitis causes the skin to remain dry so moisture has to be replaced.

As far as the sufferer is concerned, anything that helps the skin retain its moisture and natural oils is encouraged and products that remove moisture are discouraged. Very dry, flaky skin will use a thick ointment, called an emollient. Light emollients like aqueous cream may dry the skin if it is very flaky, so heavier ointment should be used. Hydrocortisone and Desonide corticosteroids are two creams or ointments that have a good success rate at controlling moderate or lower cases of Eczema but cannot offer a long term treatment.

However, corticosteroids must be used sparingly to avoid possible side effects, the most common of which is when after prolonged use can cause the skin to thin and become fragile or atrophy. Although studies aren't conclusive, there is a connection between food allergies and the dietary habits of Eczema victims. For these people, identifying the allergens could allow an avoidance diet, although this approach is still in an experimental stage. Those foods indicated in being Eczema triggers are wheat, milk, cheese, butter, eggs, Soya, coffee and nuts but varies from individual to another.

Other methods of treating Eczema also come in the form of Chinese Traditional Medicine and alternative therapy. Patients should inform their doctor, allergy consultant or dermatologist if they are pursuing one of these treatment routes. These therapies also have a wide range of treatments available but will vary in effectiveness depending on the patient. The use of antibiotics for the treatment of Eczema has happened owing to the fact that open skin would allow the entry of harmful bacteria.

Scratching by the sufferer not only introduces infection but spreads it from one area to another. This can escalate the infection which causes further problems until the necessary antibiotic is administered. Although it has mixed results, Ultraviolet light in the UVA spectrum is having a positive effect with treating the eczema of certain individuals. On the negative side though, we now know that exposure to UVA light can cause skin cancer after prolonged exposure. Further assistance on Eczema treatments can be obtained from your dermatologist or physician.

There is no need to continue feeling depressed when all you need to do is make an appointment with a registered psychiatrist who will be able to help you. Depression medication can now be used in conjunction other depression treatments and are very successful for many people who have this condition. Depression should no longer be the seemingly permanent problem it once was but as with many medical conditions, an early diagnosis is preferably; unfortunately the cost can still be high. It is now understood that cognitive behavioral and interpersonal therapy can be very successful at helping sufferers of depression as they actually attack the root of the problem.

Luckily both types of treatment can work in, medically speaking, a short time period often in less than twenty weeks marked improvements can be seen in the depressed patient. Early diagnosis is the key to a speedy recovery and the obvious need to know exactly what type of depression is being suffered whether it is manic depression, clinical or another type. The reason for this is because not all depressions are the same and neither are the medications so you can understand why this diagnosis is important. The number of anti-depressant medications available is a sure indication that this is a large problem and that there is no cure-all drug to beat the problem.

Serotonin up-take inhibitors and monoamine oxidase inhibitors are very popular, less so the older tricyclics drugs. The reason the tricyclics are no longer used as widely as they cause more side-effects than the others. Sometimes it is necessary to take a combination of drugs as this is the most effective method of controlling the problem. So the patient may find themselves on more than one type of medication to help alleviate the depression.

Despite the advances, it is still not an exact science and often the dosage may be increased or even lowered to suit the individual's needs. It is important that the patient does not try experimenting with their depression medication as it could have disastrous results and should be left to the doctor involved. Anti-anxiety or sedatives however, should never be mistaken as a form of medication. Even though these anti-anxiety drugs are often prescribed, they don't actually help cure someone's depression illness.

The depression sufferer will usually take these to help keep them calm during treatment which means that the other prescribed depression medication must still be taken. The tricyclic drugs cause some common side-effects which are not generally seen to the same degree with other types of medication. Not everyone is affected in the same way and many are quite happy to put up with them and this is not normally a problem unless it affects the person's ability to function normally. In these circumstances it's best to go to your doctor and report the side-effects immediately.

Are prenatal vitamins and DHA supplements good for a breastfeeding mom?

I still have several months to go before my due date, but I am wondering if any moms out there took/take prenatal vitamins and/or DHA supplements while breastfeeding. I take them now, and am curious to know if I am supposed to continue them while breastfeeding.
Thank you in advance for any helpful answers.

Go for it.

"DHA supplementation increases the plasma and breast-milk DHA concentrations of lactating women, resulting in higher PP DHA concentrations in infants."

http://www.ajcn.org/cgi/content/abstract/71/1/292S

"This finding suggests a cause-and-effect relationship between infant milk DHA intake and visual acuity. If these data are confirmed, there is a need to consider the optimal intake of DHA for the lactating mother."

http://www.jpgn.org/pt/re/jpgn/abstract.00005176-200103000-00011.htm;jsessionid=HQ2Vgp2HCHbJ0L2rkFQ8yy2LpRBnkryQLfckm6dh5jqvDs78wkv1!-368808804!181195628!8091!-1

"The results of this study indicated that relatively low intakes of dietary DHA significantly elevated milk DHA content. This would clearly elevate the infant's DHA intake and might have implications for brain and retinal development."

http://www.ajcn.org/cgi/content/abstract/40/4/780

Your best bet is still eating well, but.

How long should I use a skin care product before deciding if it works or not?

Skin care products like moisturizers, cleansers, exfoliators and so on.

I always tell people give them about a month or longer.
You should have an ah ha moment in that time and if you do not - they may not be the products for you -
When I tried an anti aging regime I hoped and thought it would be phooie but instantly my skin glowed. After several months I have noticed a drastic change.

Will my Health Insurance sue the father of my baby for pregnancy-related expenses?

I am 7 months pregnant, and my partner and I are not married for complicated reasons and will not be married when the baby is born. I recently heard that my insurance company (through my employer) might sue him for medical expenses related to the pregnancy (he doesn't have health insurance). Is this true? Has this happened to any of you?

No. The health insurance company you have through your employer will not sue your boyfriend for medical expenses related to the pregnancy.

All of the prenatal care is considered your medical expense, not the baby's. And, of course, your own insurance policy is going to cover your own medical expenses. (As long as maternity is covered on your policy, of course.)

The delivery and hospital charges should be considered under your policy too. Presuming that you plan to add the baby to your medical coverage at work, you'll want to complete the necessary paperwork with your employer within 31 days of the baby's birth.
