Signs and Symptoms of Eczema

No-one knows for sure what the true cause of eczema is although some theories believe there are genetic links; whilst some believe that external causes are to blame for the condition. Sufferers have to endure a condition that leaves patches of dry itchy skin that looks inflamed. In some instances the condition is worse than this leading to a general blistering that can even become split, forming scabs.

Many types of eczema exist with the most popular form called atopic eczema; like all the other types, this one is characterized by itching as well. However, the itching sensation is much more pronounced, and if a person with atopic eczema scratches their skin, the condition is just exacerbated. A side effect to this condition is how hypersensitive it makes the skin; sufferers avoid contact with soaps and washing powders but other man-made items such as make-up can have the same effect as well.

In children, the condition is less noticeable because it is hidden below the surface of the skin which means it may be overlooked for some time. The one consistent factor with eczema is the itchy skin; if this ‘itchiness' is not present in a person who suffers with the condition then it is unlikely to be a symptom of it. A similar situation can occur when a person is given eczema treatment for an itchy rash and it helps the itch but the rash remains then the two probably aren't connected.

Because itching is a symptom in many problems related to the skin, including this skin disorder, this is not the basis of diagnosing the condition. All eczema conditions have a rash but it is the associated itching sensation that is not understood yet. One of the more noticeable symptoms of is the red skin in the location of the rash which is caused by increased blood flow.

Eczema inflammation can have many triggers and more about this is being discovered constantly; one area that causes concern is where there is a bacterial infection which can easily be the result of scratching sensitive skin. Most blisters seen as part of the symptoms are quite small but large blisters can also occur; this could be caused sufferers that have developed an infection in that area or as a result of their genes. Every sufferer is warned about blisters as they can be damaged by scratching or carelessness and whilst some are filled with fluid, others have a pus like substance; sufferers are advised never to burst them and create further infection in an already highly sensitive area.
