Improve Your Fitness
Unless you are highly motivated, joining a fitness club can be a great way to improve fitness especially if you need motivating, but which one? You can only really make a choice of club once you know what it is you are trying to achieve for yourself. However, there are matters to think about in regard to the type of gym you need to look for, before you join the gym of your choice. Many people underestimate the need for a club close to where they work or live because traveling distance/time play an important aspect of how frequently you attend.
All physical fitness instructors have to be qualified before they can teach but make sure you are happy with his or her qualifications and experience. If you have particular requirements, your instructor needs to know, this will ensure they are fully qualified to teach you. Test the staff out by asking them questions about the club and services as this will tell you professional and keen they are to have you as a member. If you have an interest in learning martial arts for example, see if the fitness club arranges lessons as many clubs have resident professional in a number of fields.
Flexibility of opening hours is important as the longer it is open during the day, the less chance there is of it becoming too crowded. For people with specific needs like aerobic classes for example, see if the fitness club offers a free trial lesson for new members. Take a look around the gymnasium to see they have enough equipment or you will find queues at busy times which will put you off attending. It never hurts to check out the exercise machines they have, and that you will find them easy to operate plus they should all be clean and well maintained.
Almost all clubs have a healthy social calendar and this is a good time to get an invitation before you join and perhaps meet few people you might be able to get on with when you're training. The cost of membership is obviously a deciding factor so ensure you know all the charges, including those for classes and how often they increase the membership fee. Try to locate other fitness clubs in the area for a comparison as they might be less expensive or offer additional facilities for the membership. There is no rush so don't choose the first club that comes your way and steer clear of clubs that continue to hassle you about membership as there is no excuse for this type of behavior.

Finding a club that suits your needs will be easier once you do this so help with this, some information about this is mentioned below. The location is the primary thing that you should consider when finding a club because if the club is far from your home, you will find excuses not to work out so it is best to be either near your home or your place of work.
You must be comfortable with your trainer and be happy that they are professional and have sufficient experience to train you. If you have particular requirements, your instructor needs to know, this will ensure they are fully qualified to teach you. If you speak to the staff about their facilities and training programs, this will give you a good idea about the customer service level they provide. If you have an interest in learning martial arts for example, see if the fitness club arranges lessons as many clubs have resident professional in a number of fields.
Try to find a club with flexible opening hours because it is no good if you can only attend in the evening when they are closed. Take a look around the gymnasium to see they have enough equipment or you will find queues at busy times which will put you off attending. The more modern fitness facilities available these days are world apart from training equipment a few years ago; machines are much safer and easier to use but look out for damaged or broken machines as these should really be fixed within a week.
You may be invited to one of the clubs events to enable you to meet current member, this is well wroth the effort on your part as you may make a few friends before you actually join. Eventually, whether you join or not will be down to the cost of membership but don't forget to see if they have and other charges that are not immediately apparent. Tips in Choosing Your Fitness Club
If you are serious about getting fit then it is often preferable to do this a gym or fitness club as having other people around you can be a great motivator. Each person has their own set of needs when they join and clubs differ so it is important to assess your needs first. Once you have done this it will make the search easier and hopefully you will be able to join a club that you will want to stay at. Many people underestimate the need for a club close to where they work or live because traveling distance/time play an important aspect of how frequently you attend.
Make sure that the instructor has the necessary experience to work with you so he should be a certified professional that can work with you safely and effectively. They will also need to be aware of any physical limitations you may have or of any special needs before the training starts. Ask the staff what additional services are available; how they treat you will give you a good idea how enthusiastic and professional they are in their work. Increasing numbers of fitness clubs have specialists who work certain days or are resident such as physiotherapists and nutritionists for instance.
You also need to know that their opening times are extensive as if they are short you may find the club becomes very busy or it might be difficult for you to fit in with their schedule. If your fitness club offers group classes, choose the facility that offers the classes you really like; you can do a trial class to check it out if you want. Take a look around the gymnasium to see they have enough equipment or you will find queues at busy times which will put you off attending. Although newer types of training machines are easier to use, make sure you are comfortable using them and that they are well maintained so look around for any out-of-order signs.
It is not unusual for clubs to have social venues and it is worth trying one of these to meet some of the members to see if they are the sort of people you will get on well with. Eventually, whether you join or not will be down to the cost of membership but don't forget to see if they have and other charges that are not immediately apparent. You would be wise to visit a number of clubs locally because they all differ and you need to join one that you like and not because of other, less important reasons. This may seem like a great deal of effort but if you find a club that you feel comfortable with, the chances are you won't cancel your membership and will continue to attend on a regular basis.

Modern equipment is safer and more comfortable to use but machines and other training facilities should be in clean and in good order so if you see a lot of ‘out of order' signs, it could be something to think about.
You may be invited to one of the clubs events to enable you to meet current member, this is well wroth the effort on your part as you may make a few friends before you actually join. Whilst you are doing this research into the club, find out if the membership cost is fairly stable each year and if there are any other costs involved not mentioned on the club tariff. Fitness clubs vary which means you will need to visit a few to find one that you not only feel comfortable which also has all the facilities you require. Choosing a club is just like shopping on the best shirt for you so don't be pressured or contact them right away; take your time to review and gather enough information if you are still not sure which one to choose.
