Liposuction techniques
Liposuction is a fat removal procedure for women (and men) who are of generally normal weight but have isolated pockets of fat; however, this should not be considered as another method to lose weight quickly. Unfortunately, an unwanted side effect to this procedure is the return of the fat on occasion; this is usually from a different area to the one it was removed from.
If you are planning to have the treatment you will probably be offered one of two common methods, Ultrasonic or tumescent although there are others. The latest of these methods; Tumescent, has in a short space of time become one of the most popular forms of cosmetic enhancement in the USA today.
With this technique, a smaller tube is used to remove the fat which helps limit the amount of bruising which normally occurs. Tumescent liposuction technique is proved to cause less pain, bruising and swelling after surgery, hence shortening the postoperative recovery period.
Ultrasonic liposuction offers smoother results than traditional liposuction and it is more effective in treating the awkward, fibrous areas including the upper back.
Every medical procedure has some element of risk and this is no different because when using the traditional treatment process the plastic surgeon is unable to see exactly where the probe is inside the body. The best thing to do is to consult with a surgeon to choose the most suitable technique for your body.
Although liposuction is relatively safe if carried out by a professional cosmetic surgeon, there can be risks and very, very rarely death – about 2 in 10,000. Preparation for this type of treatment is imperative so a series of physical examinations are required to ensure that the risk to the individual is minimal. Keeping the wounds clean and free from infection after the procedure is imperative so plastic surgeons prescribe antibiotics to all patients during the healing process. Techniques in cosmetic surgery have moved forward in leaps and bounds especially in the field of fat removal.
One interesting alternative to regular liposuction is called Lipo Dissolve which uses a number of small injections to dissolve fat but it is normally limited to individuals with cellulite and other related conditions. One other benefit of Lipo Dissolve is that it does not require any form of anesthesia and patients feel almost no pain whatsoever.
