Use of Liposuction

The use of liposuction to eliminate excess fat has grown dramatically over recent years; it is most often used when other methods cannot treat it, from areas including the abdomen, bottom and thighs. The only problem with this procedure is that sometimes the fat returns some time later; annoyingly, this can happen in a completely different area to where it was taken.

Two basic techniques of removal are used; the tumescent technique and Ultrasonic. Tumescent is one of the latest advances in this type of treatment which is now is one now of the most commonly performed cosmetic surgeries in the USA.

Because the tube that removes the fat is not as large it helps to reduce the bruising in the area which is why the recovery period is longer using the procedure as it requires a general anesthetic. The main reason Tumescent liposuction has become so popular with cosmetic surgeons is because the addition of adrenaline to the solution reduces the blood loss that often happens when more traditional methods are used.

Traditionally, areas like the thighs, back, upper stomach and hips have been hard to reach and that is where Ultrasonic liposuction is superior to Tumescent.

The conventional method is often more difficult to perform over other cosmetic treatments because the surgeon cannot see where the probe is, and as a consequence internal injury can be the result. As always the best course of action for a prospective patient is to speak to the surgeon who is going the carry out the procedure and learn what method is best suited for them.

Liposuction is normally straightforward procedure but can have adverse side effects and on occasion death although the odds against this happening are something in the region of five thousand to one. In preparing for the procedure, individuals are required to undergo a series of physical examinations to determine whether or not their health is good enough to have it performed. Infections can occur after any surgery so some physicians prescribe an antibiotic to patients because of the importance of keeping wounds clean until they heal. Fortunately, fat removal techniques have improved a great deal in recent years.

One interesting alternative to regular liposuction is called Lipo Dissolve which uses a number of small injections to dissolve fat but it is normally limited to individuals with cellulite and other related conditions. One other benefit of Lipo Dissolve is that it does not require any form of anesthesia and patients feel almost no pain whatsoever.
